It Doesn’t Appear That HCC Are Supporting Farmers’ Markets

01 Aug

On 31st July I posted the question: ‘Are HCC Supporting Farmers Markets?

HCC, Hybu Cig Cymru, assures us that they are supporting farmers’ markets, but that is not what we are hearing. So puzzled by yet another stand-off, we emailed 60 Farmers’ Markets, asking them that simple question. The feedback, I can only describe as startling. I was pleasantly surprised that any market organiser would have time to email us back, bearing in mind that many market organisers are volunteers, but some have and this is where it stands to date:

60 emails sent.

23 responses received.

1 market was pleased with the support received from HCC

1 market was undecided how to respond and ‘was thinking about it……………………….

21 said that they’d had no support at all from HCC, OR didn’t know who HCC were!

Well if I was HCC I’d be having a re-think about their stance on farmers’ markets. Actually markets was one of the three sectors Fork2Fork were supposed to target, so one would assume those two parties at least had some dialogue, even if apparently there wasn’t much action to follow in their two year programme.

As HCC I’d also think more carefully about what was  published in their official booklets.

It’s honesty, not spin, that is the best policy, especially when backed up with facts and figures.

HCC should not publish statements like this it is wrong and that is being polite if I said what I really felt you prob. not allow it on the site.

Farmers markets get a rough deal, wag ignore them, fork2fork wasted all the massive money given to them and HCC say they support them.
Wag food is there to support producers and farmers and this is the basis of farmers markets. So wag why aren’t you doing more for markets instead throwing more money at fork2fork?
    It’s disgraceful nothing less.

HCC have never seriously supported markets. They’ve paid lip-service in Cardiff because they think that is a market that needs the most help?
HCC support themselves, supermarkets and exports, known as holidays abroad perhaps
If they haven’t told all butchers about PGI then people aren’t going to know about it. This site has banged on about it for ages and ages but HCC just don’t understand that they haven’t got this PGI rubbish right. But who can blame them a sensible approach is not their way.
A sensible, easy-to-understand piece in magazines and papers would help people understand what this is all about, and that’s what HCC should be doing.

HCC support farmers markets, that’s a joke they can’t even support butchers as they don’t know how many of us there are in Wales.
HCC don’t get PGI. If all butchers don’t get it then there is no hope on this earth that consumers will ever get it either. It’s another logo on food amongst many other logos.
Kath brought this to light probably 18 months ago and nothing has altered. It’s so typical of a government Quango that we pay for and that doesn’t get the basics of informing butchers and the Welsh public.
HCC should work with us and not against us and that’s also what Kath’s been banging on about for ever.

The ones HCC support are themselves
    I’ve never read such rubbish.
Support markets? Other than a brief dalliance at Riverside Cardiff that’s their lot if you discount giving brochures away.
As for PGI all Welsh butchers don’t know about but as has been said on here already so the Welsh public have no hope and as for the UK, well that is not my worry, Wales however is and we deserve more from HCC.
So does Kath by telling her how many butchers there are. Then work with her to put some good Welsh meat recipes in her brilliant magazine which does all Welsh food producers pride. That would help all of us selling meat and that includes pork too, a massive amount.
    Are you at Narbeth?

    Thanks for your support.
HCC do know where we are and what we do with WCM. They only need to talk to us if a recipe is of interest but of late all their campaigns are national.
We are more than likely going to Narbeth.

HCC looking after anyone but themselves, give me a break.
PGI is not fully understood by butchers and the Welsh public in that case haven’t a hope, so why go to all the expense and get nowhere?
HCC are not wanting to understand the role of butchers, they stick with exports and supermarkets. We are missing out but are finding out much more thanks to this site.
Pity you can’t work with their magazine and give us all coverage that might help sales in butchers. Recipe ideas would be a start.
But like wag, HCC will carry on ignoring what we say and our calls for practical help for butchers shops. They should be supporting us and want more butchers shops not allowing so many to close. But they’ll still get paid so that’s fine and dandy.
