Taste Wales – Is It Only Me Confused?

13 Dec

Ian showed me a mini piece from Wales Business Insider, WBI, which is a B2B regional title, saying as follows: Taste Wales – Food-focused trade show and conference gathering producers with UK and international buyers. It’s expected to include partnering sessions for producers and buyers to make contacts; a showcase of Welsh products; insight into innovation, skills development and business support; and an evening reception.

Well dear readers, isn’t this interesting? WBI is a regional title, one of five regional titles published. Forgive me for stating the obvious here, but Welsh Country magazine is a Welsh title, published for 13 years and focusing heavily on Welsh food and drink, but have we been sent details of this event? No we haven’t. Why not? Well maybe that question is best directed to the Welsh Government, or perhaps the Welsh press office………………..but as I’m not supposed to talk to wag and the Welsh Government press office have refused to answer any further questions from Welsh Country magazine, I’m stuck!

Using Google, I typed in ‘Taste Wales’ TW, and ignoring the food delivery business running under that same name, I got directed to Business Wales. Once on that site I searched for Taste Wales and was told to refine my search, but Food and Drink and Growing Together then showed. Scrolling down under Information, 8 headers were shown but no Taste Wales. Scroll down again and found 2 headers for News & for Events. Click on Events and guess what showed up first? Taste Wales! Other events showed up along the same line, not in date order, but why would I expect that to happen? I guess it’s my job to search and it seems it is wag’s job to not make that too easy.

All I’m asking is for wag and wag food to keep me, as a journalist, updated, particularly on the Weksh food and drink front. Then if I think it relevant I shall tell my Welsh Country readers but will most certainly keep readers updated on welshfoodbites and send any food and drink press releases to our Best Of Welsh & Borders producers. In a nutshell I’m trying to help Welsh food and drink. I just didn’t think it would be so difficult getting that message across to wag.

    No it certainly isn’t.
Confused doesn’t cover it, fury, anger, frustration does.
Wag have in theory, sent you to Coventry for a long time. There childishness will not be forgotten or forgiven by me. It’s about time that dept. grew up and they acted like professional CIVIL SERVANTS, and got to grips that you and Ian can help them if they worked with you.
I struggle to understand why Wales’ only food magazine doesn’t have wag food in it. Haven’t wag food messages to send to the Welsh public? Wag’s stand off is the stupidest thing I’ve heard of, but then we are talking civil servants who are out-of-touch with journalists like Kath, and food producers like me.
I wouldn’t want to work for that dept. Would like a regular salary though!
This is my take on this stupid situation. We can leave our comments but this dept is above arrogant to listen, learn, change and help.
Bet you rue backing the new guy Kath.

I’m disgusted with wag and wag food.
How can Kath be discounted as an editor? I’ve been advertising with them for over 7 years and I cannot praise those guys enough. The work they do for food and drink producers that are with them is amazing. They are the ones we see at markets and festivals. They are the ones we talk openly too. They are the ones we trust.
Just read a comment about wag food growing up, but there’s no hope of that. It shows that in that entire dept there is no-one that can see working with Kath & Ian would help the Welsh food industry in so many ways.
If that dept. had Kath’s commonsense and knew the micro and smaller producers as she does they could learn a lot and not waste so much money doing silly stuff.
I give up with them, but pleased on here I can give my views, sad that wag food can’t get to grips with my views and all others views on this super site which isn’t a great advert for wag food or wag either.

The confused people are wag food and I’m being polite in case a rude comment gets blocked! Confused in that they can’t see a good Welsh magazine when it’s been in front of their noses for years.
I feel sorry for that dept. as they are not decision makers but doing as they’re told by people not understanding food and drink and how many producers are having a tough time.
Guess not the time to ask about food festivals for 2017 eh Kath?

Food festivals for 2017, don’t make me laugh.
If wag food know what they are doing about food festivals for 2017 I guess I’d be the last to be told.
I’m not repeating myself as to how I see Welsh food festival problems – this site let’s you know my thinking. I’m just sorry for our Best Of Welsh & Border producers, BOW, who’d like to know what’s happening and what’s running next year, plus organsiers that are with us. We’ve had Expressions of Interest from Cowbridge and sent that around to all of our BOW, which is something and shows how we can help a festival if they are with us.
Other than that IF I get told any news, details, our BOW will know and it will also be posted on here, but it’s sensible not to hold your breath!!!!!!!!

Backing the new guy. Yes and No. Backed him because he deserved a chance to see what he could improve.
Yes because in my view no real improvements have been made.
It’s sad as I’d high hopes for the new guy……………………………

The only confused ones are wag food
I’ll never understand them. What money they have they waste, they’ve no clue about us producers and as for keeping you out of the media loop it makes sense to no-one but wag.
This is my take on it but will nothing to wag food.

    December 15, 2016 at 9:57 am

You are the least confused person I know K.
But after struggling with wag food for at least 10 years, I can only admire your dedication to Welsh food and drink. You’ve been a thorn in wag food’s side but that’s their fault and is compounded by their inability to see you’re trying to help them and us. Is that too difficult for them to grasp? Well it must be. Surely this isn’t rocket science but this department excels in my view being rather dim. I’m not trying to be rude, but here’s a quality magazine that’s devoted itself to food and drink, backed it’s producers to the hilt and their reward is wag food bully them, don’t support them, don’t send them news, don’t talk to them. I could go on but it is a waste of my time as Kath is wasting hers.
Wag food should at last admit they need you and Ian but they wont as it takes big people to do that and these guys aren’t.
Publish in the magazine Kath – your readers will be horrified as to how you’ve been treated.

    Hey Ho Kath
wag food are confused me thinks as they can’t work out what they are supposed to be doing.
you told them endlessly to talk to producers, but if they can’t or wont talk to the press it’s pointless.
    why are they there?

I’m agreeing with a comment left that it’s wag food confused, they seem to have no idea of our needs. That’s the only way I can look at this situation – to me they’re clueless. Even to the most simple person, keeping media in the loop is a basic must-do. Antagonise the media is stupid. Would this site be even here if wag food had kept working with Kath and Ian? Not to my mind it wouldn’t as they back their advertisers left right and centre and I know that with what they’ve done for me. You’re the only Welsh media fully backing Welsh food and drink but you are ignored. Don’t need to be a bright spark to work out that wag food are again wrong.
Be great if 2017 saw wag food behave like mature adults and alter their attitude to you.
I’m so disappointed in wag food and not sure how they can get away with bullying you.
    Common sense must prevail.
At least here I can say what I think.

It’s good for people to be able to air their views and would be helpful if wag food could take them on board
    Apparently not possible
so don’t hold your breath for improvements in that dept.

Kath stop being unfair in expecting wag food to talk to producers and to media as well. Have you forgotten how busy this important department is? They’ve more pressing matters to crack on with instead of talking to the people in the industry!
wag food talk to us? That’s a joke in poor taste.

You did better than me at finding anything on the site – I could not find a mention…..
What I did find was lots about teaching us small producers about advertising. I rolled on the floor laughing. Maybe I should block book them to attend one of their own sessions!

    December 22, 2016 at 12:26 pm

You’re not asking a great deal from wag food by wanting to know what they are doing so you can tell your food and drink advertisers. You’re doing their jpob for them. You might even tell your readers too, but understand why you aren’t keen to do so. But if you’re getting little from them you aren’t in the wrong, they are!
I’ve no clue how anyone gets wag food to behave responsibly as a government department. JUst can’t fasthom this, not talking to a journalist/editor, not talking to producers – what is that dept. there for?

    Give up Kath.
It’s my take, view that you’re trying to make these idiots in wag food see sense and that aint ever going to happen under this new guy.

    Sorry about that.
But in fairness I didn’t appoint him and still believe he deserved a fair chance in a new role, he wasn’t a civil servant and not Welsh either. Now he’s had a fair chance……..
Let’s not go over this again.

Kath we’re all confused by wag food but they aren’t bothered about that.
I’m unaware of their priorities, but it isn’t the media or food and drink producers, which it should be for a food department.
Please keep up the good work you do for us, without you and Ian we’d know nothing about this food dept. Actually in some ways that would be better than seeing how badly they perform and how much money they waste.
At least here I can give my views without any comeback.

I guess about 5 days ago I saw this reported in South Wales Argos a paper not known for backing Welsh food and drink.
So it makes no sense to me wag food sendind details out to Welsh media and exclude again Welsh Country magazine. Even for civil servants how can that make any sense.
The longer this goes on shows wag food
totally out ot touch with us and behaving in a childsh, petty manner. But who is that helping? – not producers that’s for certain.
    grow up wag food
