Davies: “Rejoining EU Just Not Feasible”
Conservative Senedd member for the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend Andrew RT Davies has said rejoining the EU will prevent necessary action to stop illegal migration.
All EU member states are required to sign up to the European Convention on Human Rights, an organisation Mr Davies said it was imperative Britain leaves.
He warned it would not be possible to take the action necessary to stop illegal channel crossings by small boat while under the jurisdiction of the Strasbourg Court.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham has pushed for closer ties with the European Union and previously hinted a rejoin referendum could feature in the Labour Party’s next general election manifesto.
Plaid Cymru’s Rhun ap Iorwerth, meanwhile, whose party made Wales a Nation of Sanctuary for asylum seekers, has also indicated support for rejoining the EU.
Mr Davies said:
“Leaving the ECHR will not be a silver bullet to stopping the boats, but it is clear we will not be able to take the action required while we’re bound to follow rulings of the Strasbourg Court.
“It is therefore imperative that Britain leaves.
“We would not be able to do so while a member of the European Union, demonstrating that rejoining the EU is not feasible at all.”
We had a Referendum, the UK voted to leave and that was 2016. Burnham BEFORE he was elected as an MP said quite clearly Brexit was done. Really Mr Burnham? What does done mean to you then Mr Prime Minister? What is the point of allowing the British public to tell the Government what they want and then your Labour Government decides without our permission to take us back in. Mr Burnham, do you really want to crawl back to the EU and obey the rules THEY will set? Do you expect us to accept the Euro as the UK currency? Do you expect us to take even more immigrants? Mr Burnham you will never be in control when you are crawling back to the EU. The list of Europe’s demands because that is what it will be demands, not discussions and the EU will most certainly be in charge.
Let’s not forget or ignore the EU is an organisation that has never, ever been audited, so why is that right?
Mr Burnham you are not a businessman, your whole life has been politics and despite you wrangling a seat in Makerfield, despite you promising to stay as Mayor of Manchester until your term ended, I seriously doubt your capabilities of being able to put the UK in a stronger position by dragging us back into the EU. How do you think that makes the UK look? Well in my view pathetic, soft and not putting the UK first.
You have no mandate to do that.
