Hybu Cig Cymru Toxic Workplace Allegations Not Resolved
Reflecting on his Spokesperson’s Questions to Labour’s Rural Affairs Minister on allegations of a toxic culture within Hybu Cig Cymru (HCC), James Evans MS, Welsh Conservative Shadow Rural Affairs Minister, said:
“In light of these deeply troubling allegations of a hostile and toxic workplace environment at HCC, as reported in Farmers Weekly, a damning picture has emerged of mismanagement at the heart of a public body tasked with supporting a £1bn industry. The Minister and the Labour Government cannot remain silent on this. They must launch an urgent, independent investigation into the claims and ensure that leadership at HCC is held accountable and employees can feel safe in their workplace. Farmers and processors need confidence that the body representing them is fit for purpose. It’s time for Labour to give this organisation back to the industry and ensure it operates transparently, efficiently and with integrity.”
I am unsure how long this Welsh Labour Government can stand by and do nothing about the hostile and toxic workplace environment at HCC. Would HCC stay silent if their family members were working there in such a toxic environment? Of course not! No-one should have to work under such dreadful conditions and certainly in my view when the public body of HCC is paid a huge amount from the Government and also from our farmers. This industry is worth £1billion and it is about time HCC was folded and a body formed from the industry itself to ensure that the Welsh meat industry can be in safe and secure hands.

HCC should be dumped and butchers and farmers used to form a Meat Marketing Board. It is in their interest that Welsh meat is cared for, looked after and promoted.
Welsh Government shouldn’t allow HCC to continue as they are not fit for purpose and get so much money thrown at them.
It is appalling.

I am with comments saying HCC should be scrapped and a new Meat Marketing Board formed with producers, farmers and butchers on board. Perhaps then this group will feel protected and promoted.

This is disgraceful to hear how staff at HCC are treated. Thanks Kath for letting us know.
I agree with the other 2 comments HCC should be dumped and a new team formed that includes farmers and butchers that know how tough our life is.
