Labour’s NI Hike Will Hit Food Banks Across Wales
Responding to Spokesperson’s Questions to Labours’ Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Trefnydd and Chief Whip, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Equalities and Social Justice, Dr Altaf Hussain MS, has highlighted the knock-on effect that Labour’s National Insurance hike will have on charitable organisations such as food banks across Wales.
Commenting, Dr Hussain, said:
“Increased employment costs as a result of the UK Labour Government decision to raise employer National Insurance contributions, as well as the inevitable increase in food and fuel costs will impact charities and organisations and their ability to help mitigate fuel and food poverty.
“Independent assessments show that Labour’s budget will hit low-paid workers in Wales the hardest. These same households are seeing their fuel bills rise, their water bills going up and they are dreading their council tax bills dropping on their doorsteps.
“With more people facing dire financial circumstances as a result of Labour’s budget, the Welsh Labour Government must ensure that services such as food banks and warm hubs do not close as a result of financial pressures placed on them as a result of Treasury decisions.”
No company/business who employs staff is able to escape Westminster’s National Insurance hike and this is already having a devastating affect across the country – and of course Wales. The charity sector is obviously not immune to the NI increase, but just think about how this will also hit Welsh food banks. Food Banks are working hard to help with food poverty and there is certainly a great deal of food poverty here in Wales, but if food banks close – where do these people go? It is also sad to think that many people forced to use food banks include people that are working and that includes our nurses.
What a shameful situation Labour Governments on both sides of the border have put us in……………

It is a scandal that food banks are necessary but Labour governments forget or ignore food bansk and charities when rasing NI and the living wage.

Labour governments seem to have lost the ability to see what an effect NI hikes will do to every employer.
The food banks are vital to Wales and it is sad they are needed – but this hardly helps or solves the fact that many people cannot afford food

How on earth are charities and food banks supposed to absorb the increases in NI?
it is clearly obvious they cannot like all small businesses but Labour don’t care as it seems we are not really working people.

Labour does not seem to be aware that this NI hike has had a crippling effect on all types of employers.
