Labour’s Plan To Cut Bin Collections

The Labour Welsh Government’s latest recommendations on waste collection is to cut bin collections which the Welsh Conservatives have criticised.

Following an announcement from the Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change, in which the Labour Welsh Government recommend councils collect residual waste (black bags) no more often than once every 3 to 4 weeks. Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and the Environment, Janet Finch-Saunders, argues that these changes create unnecessary complications and diverge significantly from the approach taken in England. Instead of making recycling easier and more accessible, these changes risk alienating residents and undermining recycling efforts.

Commenting, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Climate Change and the Environment, Janet Finch-Saunders MS, said:

“This is yet another unnecessary divergence from England, just like the deposit return scheme, where the Welsh Government insists on operating differently from councils in England.

“This is a significant change to what the UK Government recommends, which actively encourages more frequent waste collections to support recycling efforts. Recycling should not be made more difficult with changes and regulations. If we want people to recycle effectively, the process must remain as simple as possible.

“With Council tax rising year after year while services are being cut, people in Wales are right to question where their money is going and why they’re being asked to do more with less.”

Welsh Labour appear not to be able to follow the lead from the UK Labour Government on everything. Instead they think that collecting residual waste, the black bags every 3 to 4 weeks is ok for Wales. Well it makes life even more difficult, if not impossible, if you are living in a terrace with little space at the back or front of your house to store your rubbish whilst you wait and wait for collection by your council. I have no clue how the Labour Government thinks this will work and still encourage the Welsh population to recycle and store their rubbish.

If Welsh Labour can make life more difficult they certainly do.
